Daily Rec: 10/15

October 15, 2008

Lets go back in time to February of this year and highlight a release which did not get the spotlight it deserved. Search/Rescue is a tremendously talented band who have all the makings of greatness, my favorites being the subtle hooks and solid melodies. I also hate to mention past affiliations but it may perk some ears to know this band is made up of former members of Acceptance and Gatsby’s American Dream.

October 14, 2008

It doesn’t come out till next week but you can now listen to Brett Dennen’s new album, ‘Hope For The Hopeless’. This solo artist has got a fair amount of soul, and style to go with his acoustic based slow rock. Definitely an album worth listening to and most likely one you’ll want to pick up after hearing it.

Song to start with: “Make You Crazy”

1 Liner: The Jealous Sound – Got Friends EP

October 14, 2008

Long overdue and much anticipated, the ‘Got Friends EP’ definitely hits the sweet spot for waiting fans. The opening track “Got Friends” which is remixed twice on the short album, has a very similar feeling to ones of the band’s past hits “Hope For Us”. To take that one step further and say that in 5 years the bands has not changed one bit which seems to be an overall good thing. Drenched in passionate, catchy, forced rock “Turning Around” is probably the EP’s highlight and hidden gem, but whatever your favorite song, this is definitely worth picking up to remember the good  ol’ days.

Daily Rec: 10/13

October 13, 2008

The Helio Sequence have the perfect blend of electronic, grungy indie rock, and pop influence with their newest record, ‘Keep Your Eyes Ahead’ to create something very attractive. Hints of Death Cab For Cutie and Bloc Party both make appearances on the record but for the most part this is a creation all their own.

Song to start with: “Hallelujah”

1 Liner: Minus The Bear – Acoustics

October 13, 2008

This album is easy to talk about and describe because it’s just an EP with 6 songs redone acoustically and a new song (also done acoustically) thrown in for good measure. Most of the songs are taken from Planet Of Ice which is understandable considering it’s their newest record. “Guns & Ammo” is the new song and also pretty close to the EP’s best track. Is this worth the cost? For most people, yes.

Daily Rec: 10/12

October 12, 2008

You may have seen our write up about Anathallo’s album leak and their response but chances are a lot of people don’t know who the band even is. Their style is a little hard to describe other than to say it contains waves of experimental rhythmic melodies. Vocals a long with any other type of instruments are used to create music that is unlike much else you’ve heard. Their new album which will be out in November seems like it will be a little more traditional than their last one but it still has that traditional Anathallo sound and feel.

Song to start with: “Noni’s Field”

Full Review: Copeland – You Are My Sunshine

October 12, 2008

The new album from Copeland is outstanding, but not perfect. The old song which the album title is based off of describes what journey you can expect the record to take you on. Singer Aaron Marsh, has remarked “Initially, that song is very lovely and when you think of it, it immediately conjures up fine memories of your childhood, but actually it’s super creepy in the latter verses of the song. It gets quite dark”.

1 Liner: Scream Hello – Everything Is Always Still Happening

October 11, 2008

This record at heart is a driving album full of road trip themes and lyrics that give you the feeling of knowing you are in an important moment. The music that accompanies the nostalgia is old school indie rock with dabs of Ranicd-esque vocals. Most likely this album will get over looked but this is a little shout out to give the worthy record a chance.

1 Liner: This Providence – The Bright Lights EP

October 11, 2008

I assume this 4 song EP is just a little something to hold fans over until the full length album comes out in 2009 because that’s what the collection of songs sound like.  The band’s sound is evolving and they give a comparison with the re-recorded version of “My Beautiful Rescue” which shows the band drifting in a direction you could argue they have been headed for awhile. “Sand In Your Shoes” finishes out the record with an absolutely wonderful depiction of what it’s like to be young, innocent, and to go for love.

October 11, 2008

I love Moving Mountains and the beautiful rock soundscapes they create. Their new song “With One’s Heart In One’s Mouth” is a mix of The Appleseed Cast, Thrice, and A Band Of Horses and is unbelievable, truly a must listen to today.

1 Liner: Copeland – You Are My Sunshine

October 10, 2008

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover but you can judge it by the title and ‘You Are My Sunshine’ sums up the overall feel of the album perfectly. Almost completely opposite to ‘Eat, Sleep, Repeat’, the new album is light and airy, full of little bits of cheer. The rock music from the band’s album ‘In Motion’ is severely lacking, almost to a fault, but nevertheless the record stands brilliantly on it’s own and is a welcome addition to Copeland’s discography.

October 10, 2008

The whole album is streaming on myspace. There has been a lot of demand for this, so what do you think?

Temporary Change

October 10, 2008

This new layout and theme is only temporary, just making a few changes but the content should still be accessible while it happens.

Anathallo Address New Album Leak [Interesting Edition]

October 10, 2008

Anathallo has a new album set to be released in November titled ‘Canopy Glow’. There has been a little bit of controversy over the album which made its way onto the internet a few days ago. Apparently the leaked version is a different mix than the final copy will be. The leaked version has been titled ‘Engine Glow’ is reference to Neil Strauch of Engine Studios who mixed it.

I promise promise promise we didn’t plan it like this. And I’ll also say, I fully expect the real “Canopy Glow” to leak between now and November 18th. That’s how these things work, right? And when it does, I hope you listen to it! And that you pass it on to your friends. And hopefully you like it and they like it and you all decide to come see us between now and next spring. That’s a fair deal, right?

There is a link on their blog to the unofficial version of the album which will not be released. We don’t think stealing music is right, but is it stealing if the band says go for it, listen to it so that you know you like it? Either way it is an interesting topic.

One And A Half Deal

October 9, 2008

I’m not sure how long this deal has been going for or how long it’ll go but Everybody Else’s newest all acoustic album, ‘1 1/2′ is only $5.99 on iTunes and iTunes Plus on top of that.

Listen to “Meat Market” and then purchase the album.

Note: Link opens iTunes program

Daily Rec: 10/9

October 9, 2008

Here is a little shout out for a my friend Aaron and his band that you may have heard of called Seabird. We’ve mentioned them once or twice, or a lot already but the music is too good for you not to know who they are. ‘Til we See The Shore’ will be making our top 10 list because rarely does a band have such beautiful piano heavy rock ‘n roll music with great vocals and meaty lyrical content all in one package.

MuteMath Post News [They Are Listening]

October 8, 2008

MuteMath has come out of hiding for a brief moment to let the world know they will have a new song out in November which will be featured on the soundtrack for the movie ‘Twilight’. Also mentioned in the update is that the new album should be released in spring of 2009. (So much for album of the year in 2008)

Daily Rec: 10/7-10/8

October 8, 2008

Here is independent piano rock band, Fulton Read from Texas who definitely have something to offer the scene. The music is up to par with what you would expect or want quality wise, but the biggest thing you notice first are the vocals which have a distinct style to them. I was trying to place who they sounded like and I think the closest would be Bowling For Soup, if you have another suggestion leave it in the comments. Be sure to give the band a chance, they wouldn’t be on here if they weren’t worth checking out.

Artist: Fulton Read
Song: Is This Love…

[audio:http://thealbumproject.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/fulton-read-is-this-love-is-this-love-thats-been-eating-me-up.mp3]

P.S. I’m posting this song before it’s out and so leave some comments for the band let them know it was worth being posted early.

Full Review: Jon Foreman – Limbs And Branches

October 7, 2008

You can think of ‘Limbs & Branches’ as a ‘best of’ which takes songs from Jon Foreman’s 4 seasonal EPs that were released over the last year. There is not a lot more to say about the songs that hasn’t been said in each of the reviews we did covering all 4 discs, except to talk about the 2 new songs which merely the thought of should make any fan’s mouth start to water (or ears start to perk up? Food analogies don’t work well for sound).

Music out today worth buying

* Annuals – Such Fun
* Pompeii – Nothing Happens For A Reason
* Minus The Bear – Acoustics

Other music out today

* Jon Mclaughin – OK Now

Daily Rec: 10/6

October 6, 2008

Today’s rec was provided by one of our readers in the reader feedback post. Driver Side Impact is on Victory Records but don’t hold that against them, check out a new song below (press play to start the song) to see what you think of their new album that drops Oct. 28th.

1 Liner: Pompeii – Nothing Happens For A Reason

October 6, 2008

Indie/rock mixed with indie/folk pretty much sums up the music of Pompeii’s new album ‘Nothing Happens For A Reason’. Don’t let the fact that the music and style is easy to categorize lead you to believe this album is anything less than stunning. Any fans of Lydia or even Death Cab For Cutie’s older material should be right at home, but one listen to the lead single “Rabbit Ears” and anyone should be a fan.

Song to start with: “Rabbit Ears”

Good Morning Fire Eater

October 6, 2008

There is a new Copeland song available to listen to titled “Good Morning Fire Eater“. The song follows the previous 2 songs that are up for listening, style wise, and so at this point it seems as this will be the overall general feel of the record. What are your thoughts so far?

1 Liner: Keane – Perfect Symmetry

October 6, 2008

Keane’s first record (Hopes And Fears) which was filled piano anthems won me over with very little effort, their second release (Under The Iron Sea) however left me wanting a lot more. On their 3rd studio album, Keane has mixed the best of both albums and put out one solid record. ‘Perfect Symmetry’ is a mix between bands like Athelete, The Killers, and U2 which is a great combination. If ‘Under An Iron Sea’ didn’t do it for you, don’t give up hope as Keane are back.

Listen to Keane

Song to start with: “Lovers Are Losing”

1 Liner: A Rocket To The Moon – Greetings From… EP

October 5, 2008

Forget that A Rocket To The Moon has the marketing force of Pete Wertz and Decaydance Records behind the band and just focus on the music because this is some good scene pop, guilty pleasure stuff. There is of course a tad bit of electronic beats, piano, as well as some great sounding acoustic guitar. At the end of the day this is really catchy music that you’ll probably enjoy.

P.S. Does “Dakota” sound like a Brighten song to anyone else?

1 Liner: Jon Mclaughin – OK Now

October 5, 2008

Let’s be real clear right up front, Jon Mclaughin is a pop singer and that is what his last album was and his new album is no different. Assuming that is what you are looking for, he definitely fits in with the James Blunt and Matt Nathanson types. Overall I would say ‘OK Now’ is better than his previous album but it also feels like it tries a lot harder too. “Beating My Heart”, “Dance Your Life Away”, and “You Are The One I Love” are among the record’s highlights.

Listen to Jon Mclaughin

Song to start with: “Beating My Heart”

Daily Rec: 10/5 [Reader Feedback]

October 5, 2008

It has been awhile since we’ve had a reader feedback post and you guys always have good recommendations. Let us know who we need to be listening to, preferably lesser known artists and bands.

As a tip, The Great Fiction is just an example of the hidden bands we’ve found in recommendations before, so if you don’t have anything to recommend, give them a listen.

Daily Rec: 10/4

October 4, 2008

Remember he had those songs called “Industry” and “Beautiful Disaster” which had all that great piano? Remember how Jon Mclaughin sorta reminded you of a James Blunt, or Matt Nathanson or one of those solo artists who are bigger than the singer-songwriter persona? Seriously though, Jon Mclaughin is a talented guy who does have a new record coming out Tuesday which is worth checking out.
