Full Review: Powerspace - The Kicks Of Passion

Power/pop is the new rage and the latest band to try and take over world with a synth and aggressive vocals is Powerspace. The band’s debut album on Fueled by Ramen has been a long time coming and while it is by no means a perfect record but it does what it does do well. [...]

Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers is an acoustic/rock band that puts mood into melody and is able to create a perfect song for any situation. This is the kind of music that feels like a soundtrack to your life.

Full Review: Blindside - The Black Rose EP

The EP opens with “the way you dance” which has a slight musical hook but mostly relies on the way the chorus lyrics are sung with the help of the background vocals. The song is a stand out on the EP but does end up feeling a little too long and could have benefited from [...]

New band, The Honor Roll

Did you used to like Waking Ashland (before they broke up)? Do you like Sherwood?  You might want to check out The Honor Roll which is a combination of the two bands.

1 Liner: Powerspace - The Kicks Of Passion

A bit speratic but full of energy and enthusiam powerspace’s debut is a fun summer album. The hooks tend to be a little more subtitle than expected and will take a few listens to get into and fully enjoy this power pop record.

1 Line: Paramore - Riot!

The music is tight and focused, the lyrics aggressive and  the album accomplishes what the band appeared to set out to do. If the thought of a female singer turned you off before, you need to give at least a few songs a listen because she might be able to change your mind.

Daily Rec: 7/30

While in a store at the mall the other day I heard a song from No more Kings. I’m overly skeptical about radio singles ever since I heard Silversun Pickups and bought their cd based on “lazy eye”. Any way like I was saying I heard “sweep the leg”by No More Kings and it [...]

Northern Room is bursting with so much talent, it boggles my mind how they are unsigned to a label (unless they are choosing to stay that way). The band is for fans of Mute Math and other “catchy indie rock” bands.

Full Review: Cartel - Self Titled

I’m not exactly sure where to begin with this review because I’m conflicted inside on Cartel’s newest release. “Chroma” was Cartel’s debut album and it gave me many, many hours of musical enjoyment, I was hoping for the same with the new self titled album but I don’t see that happening.

1 Liner: Rooney - Calling The World

A few songs that are very memorable, a few other songs that are average, and a few below par. The album is worth checking out to see its what you’re looking for, but I don’t think it will be worth many people’s $10.

1 Liner: National Product - Luna

Anyway you slice it, it is pop punk that has been done before but seldom is it done this good. The vocals are stellar with music to match.

Daily Rec: 7/28

Switchfoot is not an underground band needing to be recommended so they can be noticed but their last album “Oh Gravity” really turned me around on them.
I liked some earlier stuff, loved The Beautiful Letdown, but got tired of the formula that was “Nothing is Sound”.  “Oh Gravity” is still in their same vain but [...]

1 Liner: Cartel - Self titled

Boring, repetitive, and emotionless. These are just a few words you might use to describe the second full length from a band who has all the potential to offer something much better than what they have.

3 piece piano pop/rock band Until June have probably gone under many people’s radar despite being on a major label. Check out the song “All I Have” it will suck you in the first time you hear it.
Also you can listen to the whole Starting Line record “Direction” at Their Myspace page, it’s well worth [...]

Full Review: The Click Five - Modern Minds and Pastimes

Someone had to take one for the team and listen to, and review The Click Five’s new album “Modern Minds and Pastimes”. Let’s skip the small talk and I can just admit that I didn’t have much, if any, prejudice against this band like some people do because they are too “boy bandish”. I was [...]

Full Review: Daphne Loves Derby - Good Night, Witness Light

If you have ever been a fan of Daphne Loves Derby or thought you might ever want to be then “Good Night, Witness Light”, the latest full length from the band, is for you. The second full length release under the Outlook Music label blends together everything that made this band big in the indie [...]

1 Liner: Daphne loves Derby - Good Night Witness Light

After a few releases Daphne loves Derby have finally seemed to have found a sweet spot by combining the best of all the previous records. With catchy choruses and lasting melodies, “Good Night Witness Light” is a winner.

1 Liner: The Graduate - Anhedonia

A little bit of Acceptance and a little bit of Cartel mixed with a whole lot of rock gives you the new record from The Graduate.

1 Liner: The Snake The Cross The Crown - Cotton Teeth

Changing sounds like they change their clothes, TSTCTC have moved away slightly from the folksy ‘mander salais’ and moved more in the influence of bob Dylan. Songs like “Electric Dream Planet”, and “Gypsy Music” prove the musical talent this band has.

Full Review: The Send - Cosmos

Just from the fact that The Send’s debut album “Cosmos” comes out in less than a week and there has been little to no (comparatively) advertising for it I can tell this will be a sleeper gem that people will be kicking themselves (or kicking Tooth and Nail) for not finding out about this record [...]

Take caution when listening to this band, they will get stuck in your head. “Everybody Else” the overlooked indie/rock or rather pop/rock band is a must know and their 2007 release is well worth picking up.

I’m not sure if these two would be considered similar but listening to Josh Ritter’s ecard for his new record it made me think of Rhett Miller. If you’re into that alt-country rock check out Josh Ritter’s new record “he Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter”

1 Liner: Yellowcard - Paper Walls

Straying away from the lights, Yellowcard has blended all their past records together to create “Paper Walls”. The album has mass appeal while not, quote unquote, selling out.

1 Liner: Tokyo Rose - The Promise in Compromise

The underground pop punk band has been chugging along for years putting out solid albums and the latest one is no exception. There’s nothing that makes it overly unique but a solid release nevertheless.

1 Liner: Blindside - The Black Rose EP

Blindside seems to leave the mainstream melodies off of this EP while including more of their hardcore roots. Don’t expect any radio hits but fans of hard rock take note of this release.

1 Liner: The Starting Line - Direction

With the melodies and music lining up the Starting Line have found their sweet spot. Harder than their previous pop punk efforts “Direction” knows where it’s going yet seems to lack the expected replay value.

Full Review: Future Of Foresty - Twilight

If all of the releases of 2007 are as good as Future Of Forestry’s Debut album “Twilight” then 2007 will be an amazing year for music. This band has huge things ahead of them and “Twilight” is just the first step. This is the band to keep an eye and ear on this year.
