Full Review: Robbie Seay Band - Give Yourself Away

4Robbie Seay Band’s new record “Give Yourself Away” is a natural progression for the band but also a massive step up. The Raspy vocals and laid back rock that the band has been perfecting for awhile is still intact except this record is more upbeat than the previous album was, which is a good thing.

“Give Yourself Away” is very much an uplifting record both from the cheerful music side and also from a lyrical stand point with love, and hope being mentioned in most of the songs. Other themes such as starting over, and over coming tiredness also make an appearce on the album. There is definitely a depth here that many bands forget to include.

“Song of Hope” is by far the song that will attract people to this record and could sell the album. The song’s chorus simple yet memorable, among other things. The song lingers at the end finally stepping into “New Day” which is the equivalent of you waking up to the sun shining through your window. The song is so joyful in its lyrics which talk about being glad to be alive, that it will take physical effort to be in a bad mood after listening to the song. “Love Wins” is yet another anthem that echoes earlier songs with lyrics of hope and love. The song acomplishes it’s goal of conveying that no matter what happens its okay because, love wins.

“Stay”and “Can’t Go Back” are the blandest (is that a word?) tracks on the album and it feels like they stick out with their lack of focus and direction. The cover song “Beautiful, Scandalous Night” is not bad and done rather well but it seems to stick out as well but for the reason of how different it is compared to the other songs on the record.

I was excited about this record after hearing a few songs streaming online, but once I heard the whole thing, I am very pleased with the overall product. Yes, there are things i would change about it and there are songs that don’t impact me as much as others but even in spite of those things I love this record and would urge you to make a point of listening to this band.
