If Every Avenue was playing baseball, they hit a home run with “AH!”. If the band were bowling then the new EP would be a strike. Am I being clear with my lame analogies? Basically the band that seems to have literally come out of nowhere and put out a very solid record.
I was really expecting just another pop punk band that put all their effort into a single song or two and tried to gain popularity off their “hits”. Every Avenue proved me wrong with a debut EP in which every song is as strong as the next. “Where were you” and “Think of you later” definitely have more of a radio single feel to them but all 6 songs carry themselves with equally strong hooks.
The band makes me think of Hellogoodbye, not in their sound but in the approach. Hellogoodbye was a band that coasted off their EP for a long time and I can see Every Avenue doing the same thing because they have such a strong release to stand on. I hope the band does take extra time if needed, to make sure that their full length is a worthy follow up to a stellar first record.
What are my gripes with the album? The only thing that bugs me is the last line of “Where were you” and how it ends. It feels awkward and the last line needs to be cut, other than that the album is worth the money.
