Full Review: National Product – Luna

3National Product seems to have come out of nowhere only to put out a fantastic release and gain much deserved attention. “Luna” is chalked full of catchy punk melodies that should make more than a few people take notice.

The band has a style that is a mix of Boys Like Girls and Skillet. The vocals tend to get higher during the choruses and be the hooks, (think Boys Like Girls “The Great Escape”) and the music trends to be closer to a skillet style rock with it’s hints of electronics mixed in throughout the songs.

The big theme throughout the album lyrically seems to be losing love and trying to hang on to it. The song “Love Me” makes this obvious during the chorus which goes “So don’t say that you don’t care when you know that I do…”. Then again lyrics like “The secrets, the secrets they are pushing me away from you” from the song “Explode” are not vague in their approach and reek of heartache.

The song that feels like it was written as a radio single is “Love Me” the way it starts off acoustic and but then builds adding drums and raising the intensity like they need the song to sell. The vocals are strong, spot on and are what carries the song. I am joking about the song needing to sell its self because it is able to stand on its own; it simply sticks out as a “single” type of song when listening to the album from the beginning as it is dramatically different in speed and style than the first three songs.

I could spend the whole review talking about the intro and music in “sad excuse” but for my sake and yours I won’t. The bass line with the subtle drumming and the picking guitar absolutely makes the song one that grabs you the moment it starts. It literally made me think “wow, I like that”, and I’ll admit that may sound a bit silly when written down but isn’t that what music should do, it should be something that you enjoy and even makes you smile.

This review can be summed up fairly simply. Good music, good vocals, more than a few good songs, yet nothing different. This is the same old stuff that has been out there for awhile but the kicker is that it’s done very well. Grab the album and sit back because you should get good mileage out of “Luna”

Note: album art is absolutely awesome. I think it’s one of my favorites to come along in awhile.
