2008 Predictions

Below are just some fun predictions on the bands/artists that will make it big or disappear in 2008, as well as how the music industry will change.

Unsigned in 2007 who will get signed in 2008

1) Stacy Clark
2) Jeff Caylor
3) Your Sweet Uncertainty

Band’s that will break up/go on hiatus
(I really don’t want this)

1) Copeland
2) Sherwood
3) Mxpx

Band’s that will be huge in the mainstream in 2008

1) Nada Surf
2) This Providence
3) Jack’s Mannequin

Band’s that will have amazing music in 2008 and still not make it huge

1) Mute Math
2) Sleeping At Last
3) The Hush Sound

I predict the music labels will try to introduce a new model of distribution such as unlimited music with the purchase of a certain hardware device. There is so much storage on personal music players that it is nearly impossible to fill them up with legal music. I guess that some time in 2008 one or all the labels will try and make a deal with a hardware manufacturer where the cost of the music is built into the price of the music player and as long as you are using that music player you will have access to all that labels music. Will it be DRMed? Of course but in a few years that will go away too because with that type of model it doesn’t matter because once wide spread adoption becomes available you wont need to steal something because you will just have access to which ever songs you want.

I have to agree with almost all of that. Unless I’m out of the loop on something with Sherwood I don’t see them going on hiatus.
