Full Review: We The Living – Heights of The Heavens (Mini Review)

We The Living is a band that I was introduced to by someone representing the band. Usually those type of promo emails don’t go anywhere because the band is sub-par but We The Living caught my attention right away with a very mature and complete sound.

like someone unsure whether they’re ready to take the plunge causally dips their toe in the pool before committing to the water, the albums first track, “Typical” eases in the album gradually with keys and picking guitar. Deciding that the temptation is too great the band dives head first into the water and heads on to “Saint Paul” which is a song that should make you question whether this is the late 90’s. The song definitely grabs your attention with the repetitive chorus but the songs style and overall feel is that of early Vertical Horizon or Train.

The record continues the pattern and feel that is started in the beginning only changing things up when it concludes with a short, hauntingly lo-fi cover of “Aint No Sunshine”. I think it’s a decent attempt but the effects of making the song sound like a bad recording were taken too far. The album is definitely worth your time and this band should do well for themselves.
