Full Review: Run Kid Run - Love At The Core

If something’s not broken, why do you need to fix it? Run Kid Run knows that they excel at the traditional pop punk style and thus they didn’t add anything gimmicky to their solid act.

‘Love At The Core’ is the band’s second full length album and continues where the first one left off. “Captives Come Home” uses the big chorus that the band does really well. David Curtis’ voice really shines in the song as he demonstrates his powerful talent but interestingly enough he does sound a bit like Aaron Sprinkle during the verses.

“Fall Into The Light” is one of the albums best tracks. Low and somber verses that quickly build with the pre-chorus and the lengthy chorus is point that absolutely hooks the listener, specially the line, “you need to let go, to let the old die…”. The title track, “Love At The Core” has this syncopated, half bounce, grove to it which is another one guaranteed to be stuck in your head all day.

Despite all the songs flowing together and having a similar style, all are unique enough to stand out on their own. “My Sweet Escape” is a mid tempo piano led track, “Set The Dial” is a straight forward punchy song about music, and “Freedom” closes the album as the slowest as well as the longest on the album in the form of a heartfelt ballad type.

It’s disappointing that there are only 10 tracks on the album although it technically isn’t a fault. Besides a few bland spots here or there, the album is a major victory for anyone looking for energetic pop punk music.
