Full Review: Seabird - ‘Til We See The Shore

It’s actually surprisingly rare that amazing rock music gets accompanied with such deep, thoughtful, and intelligent lyrics. Seabird’s debut album contains more than just notes and chords but rather it’s real life put into melody.

“…Give me one more song, if it sucks we all go home, if not we sing along”. No truer words have been sung about the way music should be. Summed up in the chorus of “Let Me Go On” is the essence of Seabird, the all or nothing, love it or leave it, essence. Personally I would have loved for this to be the opening track and introduction to the album but the fact that it’s not doesn’t change anything.

“Apparitions”, which is a bit cryptic in what it is actually talking about or what it’s a metaphor for, begins with full and lush piano. The song contains a classic drum beat and guitar buried in effects. Vocally Aaron Morgan really proves he has a killer voice half way through, even though its evident from the start.

Even though most songs on the record could and probably should be radio singles, “Rescue” seems to have been destined to fill the role because from the moment the singing starts all hope of not being sucked in is lost.

There is something so refreshing about the honesty depicted over and over again throughout the songs. “Jargon” is all about proving the band is good enough and can make it despite being told otherwise. The raw passion and energy that comes through the speakers is enough to make you think twice about criticizing anyone. The stellar first half of the record may be hard to follow but “Patience” brings the temp down just a tad showing the softer side of the band. The title track “‘Til We See The Shore” ends the near flawless album perfectly with a long, slow stretch before changing the rhythm and picking up the pace ending strong.

This album is for everyone who has ever felt like they are the underdog, like they aren’t good enough. The cool kids always hang out with other cool kids but Seabird is that cool kid in high school that broke the unspoken social ranks to hangout with you, the outcast.
