Daily Rec: 6/30

I don’t think I’ve recommended Son Ambulance recently but they are in the same vain as The Shins. Their new album will be a gem for those in that scene.

Full Review: Relient K - The Bird And The Bee Sides

The new release from the ever so clever pop rock band Relient K is not exactly all new songs although they may all be new to you.13 new songs along with 13 B-sides give plenty of songs for those on a budget. Just like a new used car still feels new to you, this [...]

1 Liner: The Maine - Can’t Stop Won’t Stop

How many band’s does it take to put out basically the same record before it’s not a coincidence anymore? The Maine follow behind Forever The Sickest Kids, The Cab and others in the slick, pop, glam rock style which has apparently caught fire. The rise of boy rock bands is officially underway.

First thing I’m recommending is entering our Less Than Jake contest which has some sweet prizes and good odds at winning. Second recommendation is listening to the band. It would seem that most people have heard them but if you haven’t, give them a chance even if ska isn’t your thing. Just saying.

If you like The Weepies Check out Mates Of State, or if you know about the second band but not the first then check them out.

1 Liner: Relient K - The Bird And The Bee Sides

If this album is thought of and taken for the B-side album that it is, then it’s fantastic. On the other hand even Relient K’s songs that weren’t good enough for their other records are better than a lot of the music out there today.

1 Liner: Wild Sweet Orange - We Have Cause To Be Uneasy

Honest, passionate, and engulfing are all different words you could use when describing the new record from the delicate southern rock band Wild Sweet Orange, or you could go with the simpler, “WOW”.

Full Review: One For The Team - Build It Up

The Militia Group never fails at finding interesting acts to sign, One For The Team being one of their latest. The band has certain characteristics which mask their true color and the fact that under everything they are really a lo-fi, indie rock band.

Give The Forward a listen. The Hollywood based band have a nice mix between pop and rock.

Hit The Single

After changing singers, it’s usually hard for a band to keep fans or momentum but it looks like (or sounds like) Hit The Lights may be able to over come that minor set back.  Listening to their new single “Stay Out” I can hear faint hints of their past but for the most part the [...]

Ace Enders and a million other people (band name) have put out a free album simply because he wanted to, because he thought he should. The acoustic rock style is done justice with his creative approach.
What’s your favorite track from the album?

1 Liner: The Summer Set - …In Color

This EP is very close to being really good but it falls short in several areas, the biggest being the band member’s showing their ages. Both “Seasons” and “She’s Got The Rhythm” are the stand out tracks on the short album.

1 Liner: One For The Team - Build It Up

While the jury is still out on exactly how good ‘Build It Up’ is, there are still a lot of reasons to check it out and see what the band is all about. The indie band is masked by a few shreds of pop hooks but the album is very raw on the whole and [...]

1 Liner: Less Than Jake - GNV FLA

Acting like ska hasn’t been out of the mainstream for the last 5 years, Less Than Jake are still going at full stream ahead with their newest record. Based on the title and song names, the album aims to be a tribute to the band’s hometown of Gainesville, Florida. If you’re familiar with Less Than [...]

1 Liner: Kutless - To Know That You’re Alive

Full of huge rock anthems and booming rock vocals the new record from Kutless will hit a soft spot with a good amount of people. When listening to the album straight through all the way it can get a bit monotonous but overall a decent release from the band.

Go back and listen to The New Frontiers album ‘Mending’ which came out digitally at the beginning of the year and in stores sometime in April. This is a near perfect folk/rock debut for the band and is definitely in the top 10 albums of 2008.
