For The Thrifty Folks

The Morning Benders are this week’s editors choice on iTunes and their newest album, ‘Talking Through Tin Cans’ is only $5.99.

1 Liner: Annuals - Wet Zoo

The Annuals new EP is actually a split with another band, Sunfold. The interesting thing though is that both bands contain the same members just on different instruments with different song writers. All 5 songs are in the same vain but the 2 songs from Sunfold are a bit more straight-forward rock while the 3 songs from the Annuals provide more folkie (if that’s a word) variety. All in all the album is a winner and both bands are worth checking out.

Daily Rec: 6/20

Have you listened to The Midway State yet? The band has sort of a Keane or The Fray feel to them, you’ll enjoy them.

1 Liner: The Wedding - The Sound The Steel

This band has always been solid in the music they put out, the new EP being no different. The Wedding have a generic rock style that transcends the generic part with sticky melodies and strong lyrical content to match. The band may still be a secret to most but don’t let ‘The Sound, The Steel’ pass without giving it a chance.

1 Liner: Cute Is What We Aim For - Rotation

Puberty hit and Cute Is What We Aim For grew up a bit during album releases. The biggest question is whether ‘Rotation’ is worth the money? In my opinion, probably not, but if someone decides it is it will be harder to make them the butt of a joke this time around.

1 Liner: Ace Enders - The Secret Wars

‘The Secret Wars’ album is not exactly the second coming of The Early November but just more proof that Ace Enders has a gift for song writing. The album is good and worth buying, the trouble is it’s being released for free and so this is a no brainer that you would get the album.

Updates?

The updates have been a bit slow but now that vacation is over that should change a bit. Some good releases are coming up and more reviews will be as well.

looking for a new genre? The Reign of Kindo play what they call “indie jazz”. They have a new album coming out late August which should be a good album.

p.s. these are members of This Day And Age, if anyone knows or cares.

Music out today worth buying

* Coldplay - Viva La Vida

Other music out today

* The Offspring - Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

Daily Rec: 6/17

Love & Reverie play a style of rock similar to Armor For Sleep’s first album which is not the most unique but I haven’t been able to get them out of my mind. ‘The Mapping’ is a fantastic album and this band would do well under a big indie label.

Daily Rec: 6/16

Damiera’s new album ‘Quiet Mouth Loud Hands’ is so great. This is a must own record, check out some songs on the band’s myspace.

Download Tokyo Police Club Remix

RCRD LBL have a remix of Tokyo Police Club’s song “Be Good”. You can download it or stream it from their site.

Daily Rec: 6/15

Check out new songs from Jon Foreman’s new EP ‘Summer’. Digital version is now available to purchase on Amazon. Any impressions?

Daily Rec: 6/14

Check out There For Tomorrow. Their Hopeless Records debut drops August 5th.

Full Review: Coldplay - Viva La Vida

Coldplay traditionally represents this exclusive/high class rock ‘n roll but Viva La Vida steps on the pedestal in a sense and bridges the gap to those who had previously felt excluded.

1 Liner: Computer Vs. Banjo

The self titled debut from Computer Vs. Banjo blends electronic with folk music in a way that is only natural. “Guitars Need A Sinner’s Touch” is one of the first to jump out at you with its soft, delicate touch but all the tracks have something unique to offer.

Daily Rec: 6/13

The Offspring have their new album streaming so you can check it out before it drops on teh 17th of June.

Daily Rec: 6/12

Seven Mary Three put out a solid release awhile back that didn’t seem to get much attention. Check out the mellow rocker on his myspace and let us know what you think.

Full Review: The Offspring - Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace

Much like the other bands that came up with The Offspring and progressed with the mainstream only to revert to a style similar to their early days, The Offspring have also gone back in time to when faster was better.

Free Kooks Song

The RDRD LBL has a song from The Kooks up for download. Head over and check out “Brooklyn” from the bonus disc of their new record.

1 Liner: Annabel - Now That We’re Alive EP

The hand-made, custom CD holder is enough to justify buying the new EP from Annabel but to top it off the band is actually quite good. The lo-fi indie pop band thing has definitely been done before but Annabel make room for themselves in the genre. The one thing that would have made the experience better would have been a higher production quality.

Daily Rec: 6/11

I feel a bit foolish for not expecting much, but I was really impressed with Brian Bergeron and The Late Greats. The band has an acoustic style similar to that of Ryan Adams mixed with Matt Nathanson. One thing’s for sure, this won’t be the last you hear of Brian Bergeron for sure.

1 Liner: Love & Reverie - The Mapping

The band has a similar formula to that of Armor For Sleep’s early days that works well for them. The songs are full interesting hooks and amazing vocals but the release suffers from less than perfect production. Definitely check this band out as their potential still shines through.

Some Music News

Some news tidbits from the week

  • U2’s manager Paul McGuinness has said that Radiohead’s decision to release their latest album ‘In Rainbows’ on a pay-what-you-like basis has “backfired”. [Read]
  • Is this Metallica’s new album cover? [Read]

Seriously?

I’m a fan of Building 429 as much as the next guy with their Lifehouse like style but seriously putting out a greatest hits album pretty soon after their 3rd album? Sounds like a money suck to me.

[Note: I do realize that this was label and the band probably had little or no say in the matter.]

Daily Rec: 6/10

Please don’t miss out on Seabird. If this is the only band you check out and the only link you click on, you won’t be sorry. If you combined Coldplay with Acceptance you’d get a wierd combo but Seabird would probably be the result.
