Full Review: Capital Lights - This Is An Outrage

The album is nearly flawless in its aim and execution. The main reason for the band hitting the mark is that they never stray from what they know or do so well. Even a lot of veteran bands struggle with the direction they want to go but Capital Lights have a slick pop rock sound which they don’t veer away from.

Never is there a point on the record which feels awkward or wrong. Every verse, chorus, bridge and transition is crafted exactly as it should be and fits like a seamless jigsaw puzzle. “Out of Control” is a good example of the easy to swallow, sugar coated songs with lyrics and music that blend and only make sense together.

“Let The Little Lady Talk” is one of the several times through out the album which hints of a Green Day influence shine through. It’s hard not to think of Billy Joe when the music and first line, “Well welcome home, midnight to dawn…” begin the bouncy track.

Most of the songs come alive a little bit into the song but “Mile Away” is a guaranteed hit from its very beginning. The song which would do fantastic as a radio single combines a short repetitive chorus and syncopated verse on top of an electronic beat.

The songs do walk a fine line of staying in the same style and sounding too similar, but they are all arguably different enough that you could pick out certain tracks after only once through the entire record.

Swept up in the excitement from the moment I heard the first song, I can not think of an album that’s more fun so far this year. ‘This Is An Outrage’ deserves to be on everyone’s ‘must own’ list.

[...] It only took one listen to fall in love with this band from Tulsa, Oklahoma. - HM Magazine This Is an Outrage is a fun album, offering provocative lyrics about relationships, quirky song titles, and a ridiculously catchy sound that should play well to Christian and mainstream audiences alike…Capital Lights is clearly one of the more promising new bands in 2008. - Christian Music Today Swept up in the excitement from the moment I heard the first song, I can not think of an album which is more fun to be released this year. - The Album Project [...]

  5. Yea, I definately agree. This band is great. I met them at a concert once, so I know that they’re really cool in person.

  6. i gifted this album on itunes to an exgirlfriend who always liked my taste in music, and i didnt actually buy the album for myself until a few months after the album came out. i cant believe what i was missing. Now, will this album have staying power? There have been some good bands with cds this year, like secret and whisper, ivoryline and search the city. all cds were pretty decent, but, have you listened to them recently?

ps billy joe leads green day, billy joel is a hack from long island
