Usually a band or label over compensate for new and younger bands by putting too much spit shine on a major label debut, consequently, alienating some fans. Valencia however, resists the urge to go the “over produced” path and stays true to their style, fans, and focus as much if not more than their previous album.
“Better Be Prepared” sounds like the opening track that it is with its in-your-face energy. I initially wrote the song off, as its biggest hook is simply the repeated use of the word “Backdoor”. After repeated listens though the song still remains as strong as it ever was with the verses and non-chorus parts of the track standing out more with each listen.
“Where Did You Go?” was the first track made available from the band and is easily the best song on the album. The song perfectly articulates who this band is musically as well as lyrically. This record is consumed with lyrics of pain and heartbreak in addition to hope and strength. The two different themes weave in and out of each other fighting for the spotlight with the themes of hope and love ultimately winning out. Without the back story to these songs they can come off as merely break up stories but once you know about the tragedy being sung about, the lyrics of strength begin to beam with such brilliance.
Besides the vulgar moments in “Head In Hands” and “All At Once” there is little to fault on ‘We All Need A Reason To Believe’. “Can’t See Myself” utilizes an extremely catchy melody which then is expanded on throughout the rest of the track. The songs are upbeat and pretty much what you would expect from Valencia, who has slyly stepped up their game.
The biggest and most important thing to know about these collection of songs is that they take some getting used to. Yes, the tracks are fairly catchy right out of the gate but they only get better with time and the more you listen to them the more you want to.

Very good review, especially the part about the knowing back-story you couldn’t be more true..I feel that few bands will put that much raw emotion into their music like Valencia does in this album..They deserve every bit of success that may come their way..
