Full Review: Boris Smile – Beartooth EP
Boris smile is a band who has not been big on letdowns or disappointing people, the new Beartooth EP is no different. A bit darker and even a bit more produced, it still has the touches of innocence that make the band a joy to listen to.
“Hour of The Wolf” is the album’s first best song but does get shown up a few more tracks in. Beginning with an acoustic guitar the track quickly ramps up the rhythm at a mid-paced tempo. The chorus is pure monotone goodness, relying on the catchy line “everybody loves you”.
“Tut Tut” is a unique song and takes it’s time before connecting with the listener but in the end the momentum carries the tune to a big finish. Like I mentioned before “Hour Of The Wolf”, although good, is not the best song. That privilege goes to “Program Me To Love” which sounds as if it was written after seeing the movie WALL-E because singer Wesley plays the part of machine wanting to feel the warmth of love like humans feel.
After listening to 2 of the band’s full length records I think the difference is that this EP is too short. Of course I say that about every EP but in this case, Boris Smile seems to need more time to include interludes and be less constrained than simply 5 songs.
