Daily Rec: 12/5 [Independent Edition]

I think it’s important to take time and highlight some independent artists who are just as good as any label artist. Hopefully it’s not the case but often being independent can have a stigmata associated with it that just shouldn’t be there.

Independent Singer/Songwriters

• Joel Rakes [one of our best unsigned of '08]
• Jeff Caylor [our best unsigned of '07]
• Brandon Clark

Independent Bands

• Magnolia Son’s [our best unsigned of '08]
• Driver F [one of our best unsigned of '08]
• The Great Fiction
• Boris Smile

All of these bands/artists have albums that are above par, quality wise, and are not trying to ride on “Demos”. Some label is going to be getting a great deal as all these musicians have proved that they understand this next generation of the music industry.

It kills me to get so attached to amazing music only to have it go away when the band breaks up because they don’t have a wide enough audience. Please listen to at least one of these bands or artists, and as always we’d love to hear if you find something you like.
