Full Review: The Starting Line – Somebody’s Gonna Miss Us

I always thought it was a bit odd that on The Starting Line’s debut album they had a song essentially about making it as a band, but now on a final live album after being on a major label “Given The Chance” seems fitting as the opening track.
One of the things you do realize with the set list is the contrast between song appearing on ‘Say It Like You Mean It’ and the last album, ‘Direction’. Sitting between “Almost There, Going Nowhere” and “Up & Go”, “Direction” sound strangely out of place, despite it being the better of the 3 songs. There’s always someone who will complain that the band didn’t play their favorite song at a show, but this album provides a fairly even mix of all three albums and includes all the “hits” even including “Greg’s Last Day” from their first EP. By the time you get to “Somebody’s Gonna Miss Us” in the set, the realization that the band is on hiatus sets in, just in time for the final 2 songs, “Best Of Me” being a fitting final track.
The [musical] quality of the recording is decent, nothing spectacular, but about what you might be expecting. Without any real surprises or variations worth noting this album is still something for serious fans only, those unfamiliar with the band will want to start with the studio records first.
