Corrections & Updates [Music In Review]

You usually only get the initial reactions for music with reviewers only getting a limited time with the music before giving their impressions. I’d like to go back though over some music from 2009 and update some opinions and reviews.

Editors note: I do [still] stand by my initial reviews/recommendations

Paramore – Brand New Eyes

Even though I do think the band did play it a little safe, they did it well. After the album being out for months, it still carries the weight it did in the beginning. The score for this album may have been a point too low.

The Fray – Self Titled

This album is what it is. It’s good, it’s fine, but I haven’t really gone back and listened to it much if at all and probably should have been scored a point lower.

This Providence – Who Are You Now?

I’m still rooting for this band in the long run, but this album was terrible. Even the 2 out of 5 might have been a little generous.

Phil Wickham – Heaven & Earth

Even though I said this was a good album, I continue to think this is his best record to date and better than a lot of other Christian music being put out.

The Academy Is… – Lost In Pacific Time

I thought it was good when it came out, but I ended up listening to these songs a TON. Good EP and direction for the band.

Athlete – Black Swan

This record turned out to be just okay. I was really taken with the first 2 tracks, but the rest of the album didn’t hold up as well as I initially thought it would.

.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the big music sites are just machines focused on business rather than music. This is my small attempt to be more transparent in talking about music and furthering the conversation about a handful of record from this year.
