1 Liner: Cool Hand Luke - The Sleeping House

Posted on July 3rd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Full of ambient rock, ‘The Sleeping House’ has it’s dark moments but it also has the parts that shine an optimistic point of view. With a slower overall tempo this album should fit many different moods as well as scratching a lot of different itches people may have. Any fans of Copeland, Noise Ratchet, or Thrice’s newer material should check this album out.

1 Liner: Eye Alaska - Yellow & Elephant

Posted on July 1st, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Different and so very intriguing, Eye Alaska have combined a few genres to create something that is worthy of getting excited about. Lush and full sounds are only the start as the band as makes room for plenty of grove parts. Seek this album out as you won’t be disappointed.

1 Liner: The Maine - Can’t Stop Won’t Stop

Posted on June 30th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

How many band’s does it take to put out basically the same record before it’s not a coincidence anymore? The Maine follow behind Forever The Sickest Kids, The Cab and others in the slick, pop, glam rock style which has apparently caught fire. The rise of boy rock bands is officially underway.

1 Liner: Relient K - The Bird And The Bee Sides

Posted on June 28th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

If this album is thought of and taken for the B-side album that it is, then it’s fantastic. On the other hand even Relient K’s songs that weren’t good enough for their other records are better than a lot of the music out there today.

1 Liner: Wild Sweet Orange - We Have Cause To Be Uneasy

Posted on June 27th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Honest, passionate, and engulfing are all different words you could use when describing the new record from the delicate southern rock band Wild Sweet Orange, or you could go with the simpler, “WOW”.

1 Liner: The Summer Set - …In Color

Posted on June 24th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

This EP is very close to being really good but it falls short in several areas, the biggest being the band member’s showing their ages. Both “Seasons” and “She’s Got The Rhythm” are the stand out tracks on the short album.

1 Liner: One For The Team - Build It Up

Posted on June 24th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

While the jury is still out on exactly how good ‘Build It Up’ is, there are still a lot of reasons to check it out and see what the band is all about. The indie band is masked by a few shreds of pop hooks but the album is very raw on the whole and can feel slapped together at certain parts.

1 Liner: Less Than Jake - GNV FLA

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Acting like ska hasn’t been out of the mainstream for the last 5 years, Less Than Jake are still going at full stream ahead with their newest record. Based on the title and song names, the album aims to be a tribute to the band’s hometown of Gainesville, Florida. If you’re familiar with Less Than Jake and your memories are fond, get excited about this release.

1 Liner: Kutless - To Know That You’re Alive

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Full of huge rock anthems and booming rock vocals the new record from Kutless will hit a soft spot with a good amount of people. When listening to the album straight through all the way it can get a bit monotonous but overall a decent release from the band.

1 Liner: Annuals - Wet Zoo

Posted on June 20th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The Annuals new EP is actually a split with another band, Sunfold. The interesting thing though is that both bands contain the same members just on different instruments with different song writers. All 5 songs are in the same vain but the 2 songs from Sunfold are a bit more straight-forward rock while the 3 songs from the Annuals provide more folkie (if that’s a word) variety. All in all the album is a winner and both bands are worth checking out.

1 Liner: The Wedding - The Sound The Steel

Posted on June 20th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

This band has always been solid in the music they put out, the new EP being no different. The Wedding have a generic rock style that transcends the generic part with sticky melodies and strong lyrical content to match. The band may still be a secret to most but don’t let ‘The Sound, The Steel’ pass without giving it a chance.

1 Liner: Cute Is What We Aim For - Rotation

Posted on June 19th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Puberty hit and Cute Is What We Aim For grew up a bit during album releases. The biggest question is whether ‘Rotation’ is worth the money? In my opinion, probably not, but if someone decides it is it will be harder to make them the butt of a joke this time around.

1 Liner: Ace Enders - The Secret Wars

Posted on June 19th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

‘The Secret Wars’ album is not exactly the second coming of The Early November but just more proof that Ace Enders has a gift for song writing. The album is good and worth buying, the trouble is it’s being released for free and so this is a no brainer that you would get the album.

1 Liner: Computer Vs. Banjo

Posted on June 13th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The self titled debut from Computer Vs. Banjo blends electronic with folk music in a way that is only natural. “Guitars Need A Sinner’s Touch” is one of the first to jump out at you with its soft, delicate touch but all the tracks have something unique to offer.

1 Liner: Annabel - Now That We’re Alive EP

Posted on June 11th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The hand-made, custom CD holder is enough to justify buying the new EP from Annabel but to top it off the band is actually quite good. The lo-fi indie pop band thing has definitely been done before but Annabel make room for themselves in the genre. The one thing that would have made the experience better would have been a higher production quality.

1 Liner: Love & Reverie - The Mapping

Posted on June 10th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The band has a similar formula to that of Armor For Sleep’s early days that works well for them. The songs are full interesting hooks and amazing vocals but the release suffers from less than perfect production. Definitely check this band out as their potential still shines through.

1 Liner: Jon Foreman - Summer EP

Posted on June 10th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The final season to be put into musical form by the Switchfoot front man is definitely a contender for the best of the 4. Light and breezy the album also contains quite a bit of instrumentation as well.

1 Liner: The Offspring - Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace

Posted on June 9th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Well it seems The Offspring were successful on their time machine because they really have reverted to their roots and former style. Time to get excited if you enjoyed, ‘Smash’, ‘Ixnay on the Hombre’, or even parts of ‘Americana’.

1 Liner: Tyga - No Introduction

Posted on June 9th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Tyga’s connection to the Gym Class Heros may or may not have had anything to do with him putting out a record but I’m not really sure how else it could have happened. This is basically like a rap/hip hop version of Cute Is What We Aim For’s debut record. In other words, drama put to music.

1 Liner: Gavin Rossdale - Wanderlust

Posted on June 7th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The beauty of the new album from former Bush front man Gavin Rossdale is that the material is accessible for both Bush fans, as well as those who didn’t care for the now defunct grunge band. When everything is said and done this album just makes wish Bush would reunite.

1 Liner: Coldplay - Viva La Vida

Posted on June 6th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

With the latest release Coldplay moves in a more rock orientated focus while not losing some of those softer touches they are known for. The album is beyond good, it’s actually mind numbingly great, even for them. Whether you’re a fan or not, the album is worth checking out.

1 Liner: V/A - Verve Remixed 4

Posted on June 3rd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Verve Remixed is a series of albums that centers on the concept of classic Verve tracks, remixed by contemporary electronic music producers and DJs. When this showed up in my mailbox I had no knowledge of the compilation series but after listening all the way through, I fell in love. Most likely this will be for certain moods and times but it is an amazing collection of tracks/remixes.

1 Liner: TV/TV - Something To Get Excited About EP

Posted on June 2nd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The EP goes above and beyond the standard pop/rock genre it falls into. From the moment “Get It Get It” takes off in a rush of sound you begin to see (or hear) how big TV/TV could be. Full of absolute gems this record really is something to get excited about.

1 Liner: Damiera - Quiet Mouth Loud Hands

Posted on May 28th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Punk band, Damiera have matured and expanded their sound to transcend the “punk” genre while not really leaving their former style. ‘Quiet Mouth Loud Hands’ is such a step forward for the band as well as the scene they contribute to.

1 Liner: Alesana - Where Myth Fades Legend

Posted on May 28th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

The new album from post-hardcore band Alesana is pretty much exactly what you might expect. With no real surprises or anything different from the norm, the album may get pretty bland for some. On the bright side if you’ve liked any of the songs you’ve heard then you will enjoy the entire album.

1 Liner: The Canvas Waiting - In Search Of Beginnings

Posted on May 27th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Passion and energy run deep and steadily throughout the entire album. The indie rock style is one of both upbeat night driving songs as well as reflective and somber songs. ‘In Search Of Beginnings’ is an album you should not let go unheard.

1 Liner: Weezer - Self Titled (Red Album)

Posted on May 26th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

You know you’ve been doing this awhile when you start running out of colors for your album cover. The red album is interesting, because in some ways it scratches so many of the itches that fans have had but in some ways it just misses the mark. Chances are this will be a hit or miss for most people.

1 Liner: The Mirror Stage - Ten Thousand Tongues

Posted on May 24th, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Despite some minor flaws, The Mirror Stage has created a very compelling album that dives into a slightly darker indie rock. ‘Ten Thousand Tongues’ uses some light electronic elements to enhance the sound which fits well with the unique fragmented singing style.

1 Liner: The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

Posted on May 23rd, 2008 by Tyler, under One Liners.

Even though you still may not recognize the name, The Hold Steady broke out into the mainstream with their last record and ‘Stay Positive’ should do just as well. The very raw indie rock music and vocals which sound inspired by rancid or other early punk have just enough pop in the mix to work for the masses. Besides 1 or 2 painful songs the album is pretty good and worth looking into.
