LaVar Ball Told FS1’s Kristine Leahy That Big Baller Brand Is Not For Women

FS1

LaVar Ball may have opened his mouth one too many times on Wednesday, as the father of NBA Draft prospect Lonzo Ball had a disastrous appearance on “The Herd” on FS1. Up until his Wednesday appearance, Ball had been boisterous and ridiculous with some of the things he said, but had avoided being problematic.

Ball got into it with Colin Cowherd’s co-host Kristine Leahy on Wednesday’s show when she asked about Big Baller Brand’s shoe sales. Ball took offense to the comment and told Leahy to “stay in her lane” while only speaking towards Cowherd (and saying they’d sold 400 to 500 pairs).

When Leahy persisted and tried to explain she wasn’t attacking him but simply pointing out that the company should try and also target women (like, 50 percent of the population and more than half of the clothes-buying market), Ball insisted that Big Baller Brand is not a women’s company.

“Uh, yeah, if you have a women’s company, but we talking about Big Baller Brand,” Ball said.

It’s a very bad look, both his dismissive tone to Leahy, insisting to only speak with Cowherd, and his comments about Big Baller Brand not being for women. The latter is especially confusing because, well, Big Baller Brand does have a women’s line on their website, but Ball — rather than choose to point that out — chose to go in the opposite direction and draw a line between Big Baller Brand and women.

LaVar has always felt like that loud uncle that will say things without any regard for consequences, but to this point it had been mostly harmless. On Wednesday that line was crossed and the inevitable backlash is coming for LaVar Ball and Big Baller Brand — and by proxy, although he didn’t do anything, Lonzo Ball as well.
Ball also took shots at FS1 contributor Jason Whitlock later in the interview, who has been critical of Ball, during his interview with The Herd, which was far less controversial and, considering how detested Whitlock is, probably would’ve won Ball some fans had he not just said all the things he did in response to Leahy.

You can listen to the full interview below, with the Leahy comments starting near the six minute mark.

Wednesday will be the day that many jump off the LaVar Ball bandwagon as he managed to torpedo himself with his words, which felt inevitable when he started going on every show possible.
