Full Review: Brand New – Daisy

“Vices” opens the album as if the band were taking a completely different, hardcore direction, filling the speakers with distortion and screams [after the long intro, of course]. Brand New has switched things up on each previous album, cohesively exploring sub genres of sub genres, but with ‘Daisy’ the band can’t seem to choose their path.

‘Daisy’ is probably Brand New’s least exciting/interesting album, often becoming boring for stretches at a time. I say all this as a fan of the band, but it seems as if the band had gotten bored as well and this record is their attempt to create something interesting for themselves. Unfortunately, this doesn’t transfer to the listener and although ‘Daisy’ is by no means a failure, it’s just less than I was hoping for.

Song to start with: “At The Bottom”

First Impression: Brand New – Daisy

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Well, if not the most anticipated release of everyone, everyone is at least a bit curious as to the result of the Brand New’s latest release.

Just a quick recap of past albums leading up to this one. ‘Your Favorite Weapon’, the pop/punkish debut record was good, but didn’t foreshadow what was to come. ‘Deja Entendu’ was, either by unbridled skill or just dumb luck, one of the great albums able to send shock waves through the indie scene also able to influence bands of all statures. ‘The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me’ could not have come with more anticipation, but used brutal honesty coupled with great melodies to extend their rein.

My first thoughts on ‘Daisy’? The band has gotten to the point of boredom and these songs are some of the most experimental that the band has done to date. A mix of hardcore screams and slower indie rock instrumentation may not sound ‘experimental’ for Brand New, but the way these songs are done are not ones of instant connection.

Daily Rec: 8/14

I am really impressed with Chasing Ghosts. Musically, the band is influenced by Jimmy Eat World, Lovedrug, Brand New, and the Deftones just to name a few, which really shows in each song’s diversity. The gut is a good indicator when it comes to music and I’ve got a good feeling about this band. Their new Album came out June 6th, get it!

Daily Rec: 8/10

This latest reader feedback was a big success with a lot of good, relatively unknown bands coming to the light. One of which was Civalias who recently released a new EP entitled ‘You.Me.We’. Piano driven mellow pop/rock and full vocals make Civalias compelling for fans of Aqualung or even buzz word band, The Fray.

Civalias

Also it has already been mentioned but Brand New also released their first single for everyone to listen to called “At The Bottom”

First Impression: Brand New Single “At The Bottom”

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

“At The Bottom” is the first glimpse the band is giving us as to what ‘Daisy’ will be. The song itself definitely has a unique style, something not really found on any of the bands other records, but closer to TDAGARIM than other releases. The song does throw in just the slightest hint of southern rock influence both in the vocals and the guitars, but it’s not clear whether this is just “At The Bottom” or some indication of the rest of the songs. Any thoughts on the song? Let us know.

“At The Bottom” will be streaming on Monday August 10th

UPDATE: The song is now up and streaming. Leave your thoughts and impressions.

1 Liner: Brand New – (Fork and Knife)

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Leave it to Brand New to just randomly release a single new song. The song is slightly different for the band infusing a bit a soulful rock style with Brand New’s typical approach. Hopefully the song is an indication of the direction the band is headed. The song is worth your money.
