Since crying about it won’t bring Copeland back, how about you check out a similar band named Deas Vail. They are not a replacement and are not trying to be, but I know there are still a lot of people who have not given them a chance yet and you really need to. If you have already fallen in love with the high pitch vocals and the mellow rock then you may want to go back and listen to the band’s first full length record ‘All The Houses Look The Same’.

Deas Vail is one of the few bands who can take pop/rock music and force the listener to apply “beautiful” to it as an adjective. High pitched vocal melodies and musical ones of the same caliber dance around, each with the hopes of outdoing the other. Despite the elegance which flows freely throughout ‘Birds & Cages’, accessibility is not sacrificed and after the first time with the songs they begin to show their vulnerability.

Deas Vail’s 3rd release and 2nd full length album is simply complex and simply wonderful. While there is a degree of depth that requires multiple listens for the songs to wrap themselves around you, there are also tracks that will click  the first time, most notably “Excuses”. There’s no reason ‘Birds & Cages’ shouldn’t be the bands breakout record.

Show Review: Mae/Deas Vail/Locksley

Friday, October 16th, 2009

afternoon

No matter what your opinion of the band is, it can never be said that the band Mae is afraid to try new things. Nothing was clearer Wednesday night during their inventive and artistic performance during their set on their (a)fternoon tour. Deas Vail and Locksley were fronting for the veteran band on this leg of the tour and once the horrendous local opening act cleared the area, Deas Vail took the stage. The sound check took about half an hour, but once the band got started, any disgruntled fans were silenced. Most of the audience had no idea who Deas Vail was, but I was familiar with both of their projects and was excited to see them play. The band far surpassed any and all expectations held by anyone in the audience.

Full Review: Deas Vail – White Lights EP

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Deas Vail released their last album, ‘All The Houses Look The Same’, in the beginning of 2007 and at that time they were simply a band whose name I had seen around but not really cared to seek out and actually listen to. Once I finally did listen to them, I was forever in their debt for the beautiful music and will probably be a fan for the foreseeable future. You may be wondering the reasoning for telling that bland little story? I don’t want you to miss out on the ‘White Lights’ EP, or this band.

Deas Vail has one of the best vocalist in the scene right now which is proven over and over again in the new EP, ‘White Lights’. The 5 songs feel a bit meatier and more mature in their approach than the band’s debut album however, style wise, Deas Vail remains about the same. “Last Place” was one of the songs that kept making think, “man I love this band” as it shines as the slower but highly confident middle track.

Deas Vail are a mix between Copeland, Mae, and Mute Math. Don’t be afraid of the band simply because they have a name that can be kind of scary to say out loud (for fear of mispronouncing it). The band also have a new EP coming out in August and you can bet that when they post a song from it, we’ll let you know.

Deas Vail released an album last year and there’s a good chance you didn’t hear about it. The band combines styles similar to Copeland, Mute Math, and Mae. Do your self a favor and check out the band.
